Work with multiple sessions

Open up to six sessions alongside and switch between a grid and tabs.

24-second silent walkthrough. Written steps below.

Open sessions alongside

Hold Cmd on macOS or Ctrl on Windows and Linux while clicking:

  • An existing session in the sidebar to open it alongside your current session.
  • The New Chat icon to create a new session alongside the ones already open.

Keep the modifier held as you click. A normal click opens the session in the focused pane instead of adding another pane.

Use the session menu instead

Open the three-dot menu next to an existing session and choose Open alongside. This is an alternative to the shortcut, including when you don't have a keyboard.

Switch between grid and tabs

With multiple sessions open, use the layout controls above them:

  • Board: display sessions together in a grid. The number of columns adjusts to the available width.
  • Tabs: show one session at a time and switch between the open sessions using their tabs.

Both layouts support up to six open sessions. Switching to tabs keeps the same sessions open; it does not increase the limit. Board layout requires enough width to show sessions side by side.

This is a limit on sessions open in the current view, not the number of conversations you can keep in a workspace.
