How-to guides
Use your Claude Code or Codex login
Run a session on the Claude Code or Codex CLI you already pay for, keep an eye on plan limits, and switch the conversation to the other one when you run out.
Before you start
Install the CLI you want to use and log in to it on the machine that runs the Prokop server: claude 2.1.259 or later, or codex 0.156.0 or later. Prokop uses their own logins, so there is no provider or API key to set up. Need to install Prokop? Follow Get started first.
Settings → Server → Harnesses shows the version Prokop found for each CLI. You can turn Claude Code or Codex off there for new sessions and scheduled jobs without stopping the ones already running.
Start a session on Claude Code or Codex
- Click New Chat in the session list.
- Open the model picker in the session header and click Model.
- Pick Anthropic for Claude Code or OpenAI for Codex, then choose a model. Effort sits next to it.
- Send your message. The composer reads Message Claude CLI or Message Codex CLI, so you can see which one you're talking to.
The session gets the selected agent's instructions and memory, plus Prokop's memory, session search, and skill tools. Its tool calls go through the same permission rules as any other session.
Keep an eye on your limits
Open the Usage tab next to Sessions in the left dock. It shows the 5-hour, weekly, and per-model limits of your Claude and Codex logins, with reset times. Move the tab to any dock if you want it in view; it keeps updating while it's on screen.
Switch when you run out
- Wait for the session to be idle.
- Open the model picker and choose a model from the other source: OpenAI for Codex, Anthropic for Claude Code, or Prokop for the built-in runtime.
- The conversation shows Switched to … where the switch happened. Keep typing in the same session.
The new runtime starts a fresh thread with a summary of the conversation: your first request, the last six turns, and the session ID so it can look up earlier details with session search. Nothing from the earlier turns runs again.
Switching isn't available while a turn is running or queued, an approval is pending, or a Goal or Compact is running. After a switch, Fork is unavailable, and Edit and Undo are unavailable in Claude Code and Codex sessions.
Next, set up agent memory and learning so what you teach one runtime carries over to the others. For more detail, see the configuration reference.
